Ever since Mr. Raghuram Rajan, the present Governor of the RBI, has made public his intention to not seek a second term, a large number of leftist elites including journalists, industrialists, writers, Bollywood personalities have suddenly become assertive on social & main stream media.
It is apparent that for some strange reason, they were hoping for Mr. Rajan to continue, even though it is quite unusual for an RBI Governor to get a second term, as far as the history of the institution is concerned.
One of these fans, if we can call them that, is Ms. Latha Venkatesh, Executive Editor of CNBC TV18 and a self-proclaimed RBI watcher. She has been quite vocal against Mr. Rajan leaving the RBI in September. And her reactions, strangely, were almost instantaneous.
From that moment until now, she has been going on and on about it. Her sadness was quite visible & almost akin to someone’s passing away (touch wood). And then it turned into hatred, mockery & anger. Towards the government. Towards some imaginary “crony” capitalists. To even trolls making fun of the whole situation. Pretty bizarre if you ask me.
And this weird outpouring of emotion, was not only restricted to social media. She is even inviting guests on her TV Show and asking them for their opinion on Mr. Rajan’s “ouster”. We caught a glimpse of one such discussion on her show, with Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, a famous Indian Investor and partner in the asset management firm named Rare Enterprises. And Mr. Jhunjhunwala, to our amusement, spoke as any rationalist would in a situation like this, leaving her stunned in the process.
